"Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit-his actions, his gifts, and his biddings -in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands. CCC,1309"
Junior High students are those students in grades 7 and 8. These are years of tremendous growth and formation. The students are encouraged to practice their faith through community service opportunities and parish ministries. The Junior High Confirmation Preparation Program meets in the Church Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on at least 18 Sunday nights a year, according to the annual schedule. The evening begins with pray, followed by an hour of catechesis (learning the faith) in small groups. The session concludes when the students return to the Church Center for fellowship, an activity releated to catechesis or liturgical season followed by a closing prayer.
Junior High years are times of preparation for the last stage of initiation into the Catholic Christian Community . Since Confirmation is celebrated in the fall of Freshman year of high school, teens participate in a September Retreat and the parents of the candidates prepare a Parent/Candidate Retreat to announce the teens to the parish community and affirm them publicly as their children continue in faith development in the Catholic Church. Other required activities are listed in the Schedule of Events.
