Prayer is the way we talk with and listen to God.  It is simple communication with Him. Prayer is one of the most self-revealing acts of a human being. It is crying out to God and pouring out our soul to God in adoration, gratitude, petition and contrition – the four traditional types of prayer. It is basking in the warmth of God’s friendship for Jesus said, “I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15)

Though we tend to think of prayer as asking God for help, prayer, even more importantly, is listening to God. It serves as a way to hear the voice of the Lord in our lives. The best example is in the book of Exodus 33:11: “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.”

The St. John’s Prayer Ministry provides a variety of opportunities for involvement depending on the individual’s desire, station in life, and available time. Conscious of St. Paul teaching that we are to pray continually and to give thanks in all circumstances (I Thessalonians 5:17), our Prayer Ministry has just two objectives:
  • Enriching our prayer
  • Being mindful of the the prayer intentions of our parish community in order to support one another
